We’re excited to share a significant feature update as part of our pathway to CMP certification.

Geolocation based cookie banner settings & auto language detection

You can now configure consent presets by region, and the banner can optionally display in the user’s preferred browser or Operating System language.

For example:

  • In Germany, your banner can display in German and auto-block cookies until consent is given.
  • In the US, your banner can display in American English and only block cookies if the user opts out (assuming your business doesn’t exceed the CCPA’s thresholds).
  • In Australia, your banner can be completely hidden as no consent notice is required.

Do you need to do anything?

If you want to take advantage of either of these updates, then yes. Otherwise, your banner will continue to work as it has been.

Update your consent banner embed (Recommended)

To ensure consent mode behaves according to the regional consent preset of your banner (e.g. opt-in or opt-out), we needed to update how consent mode data gets added to your website’s data layer.

To make sure consent mode matches your banner’s consent preset, you’ll need to reinstall the consent banner using the new embed script. You can find it in the Installation tab.

Setting up regional consent presets

Right now, your banner is using the global default settings – which corresponds with whatever your banner was set to before this update.

To switch to regional consent settings, just log in to GetTerms and head to the Configuration tab of your consent banner.

Enabling auto detect language

To turn on automatic language detection, you’ll need to update your cookie banner’s embed script. You’ll find this in the Installation tab of your GetTerms dashboard. See the image below.

Google Consent Mode improvements

To support regional consent requirements, we’ve built consent mode’s default consent state controls directly into our dashboard. Make sure you follow our setup guide!

Simple and streamlined – As all things should be.

Now, it’s full steam ahead to join the Google CMP partner program.

New SMS clauses and policy improvements

We’ve expanded our privacy policy and terms and conditions with new clauses for more comprehensive coverage including SMS terms for the USA and Canada.

Recent updates

It’s been a busy quarter for us, and we want you to know what we’ve been working on!

Redesigned UI

We’ve completely redesigned our user interface, which we hope you’ll agree is far more intuitive. Policies are now separated into their own builders, removing clutter and making forms more compact. This also greatly speeds up the process of creating your consent banner.

GetTerms app rebuild

While functional, the old app and policy builder made development and improvements slow and difficult for our team. We’ve now rebuilt it from the ground up, making it much easier to add new policies, translations, and clauses quickly.

Consent banner refactor

We’ve refactored the consent banner to be faster, more robust, more customizable, and easier to maintain. This improves performance for you and accelerates the speed we can deliver new features and designs.

New and improved cookie scanner

We’ve migrated our cookie scanner to a new technology. It now goes deeper and delivers more consistent, insightful reports.

You’ll now see:

  • Which pages are being scanned
  • how many cookies were found during
  • Any errors flagged by our scanner

In testing, it has outperformed competitors in speed and reliability when detecting new cookies – but of course, there’s always improvements to be made. Let us know if you have issues or feedback.

Overhauled cookie management center

We’ve overhauled the cookie management center with a bigger cookie database and a clearer view of which cookies are active, and functionality to deactivate or permanently remove decommissioned cookies.

Policy pack duplication

We’ve added the ability to duplicate policy packs to make setting up your clients faster, especially those with custom translations.

Resources hub improvements

Our resources hub has been updated with new text and video guides to support you and your team.

What’s next?

There’s a lot in the pipeline, but a few product updates on the horizon are ones we know you’ll appreciate.

Agency roles & permission controls

You’ll soon be able to give clients exclusive access to their own policy packs, allowing them to manage their own policies and cookie banners – if you choose to give them that control.

Additional language support

We hear you – we know how important this is. We’d launch it tomorrow if we could. But the truth is, this is a complex undertaking that adds significant ongoing maintenance. Please know we’re actively working on a solution!

And there’s more on the way:

  • Terms and conditions update
  • Refund policy update
  • Sign in with Google and 2FA
  • DSAR form support
  • “Do Not Sell My Personal Information” mechanism
